Midterm Elections - Part I: Competence

I’m a fiscal conservative who just voted Democrat. There’s a good chance your clients voted Democrat too.

I’m not saying I’ll vote Democrat in the future—I don’t marry myself to political parties. I have a checklist of issues, and the candidate who matches them best gets my vote. It’s just a sad sign of our times that my first checklist item, “Displays minimal competence and has a grip on reality,” was not visible in any of our GOP leaders.

I hope our tax cuts don’t get rolled back. I hope privatization of social security stays in our political discourse. I want smaller government and I hope we don’t make bad fiscal decisions in a misguided effort to reduce our national debt. But something had to be done.

Congress failed one of it’s primary responsibilities—acting as the check-and-balance for the executive branch. An executive branch which has been doing some truly reprehensible things in my name.

The next two years should be interesting and revealing. Subpoena powers… activate!

Financial Advisor Magazine sees the Democrats focusing more on corporate tax reform, starting by eliminating abusive corporate tax shelters. […]

[…] If that sounds like an interesting idea, check out reddit. Digg is mainly used by younger users and reddit is the adult version. It tends to have a slightly anti-Bush/GOP theme but – if you haven’t noticed yet – I don’t see that as a negative. Be careful, reddit is extremely addictive. […]
