Wealth Managers for Ron Paul

Ron-Paul

Something interesting is happening right now. Congressman Ron Paul is the Republican dark-horse presidential candidate and he is setting a record for one-day individual campaign contributions. Paul will raise more than $2,000,000 $3,000,000 $4,000,000 today — for a relatively unknown candidate, that’s impressive extraordinary awe-inspiring.

Paul is an interesting character; he’s the only Republican anti-war candidate. He wants to move the US to a commodity-based anchor for the dollar. He’s a 10-term Congressman with a background in Austrian economics who sits on both the Economic and Financial Services Committees. He wants to disband the Federal Reserve, dramatically reduce taxes and gradually eliminate social security. His ideas would be *great* for the wealth management industry.

Here he is on Bloomberg talking economic policy:

Ron Paul’s campaign philosophy also speaks to my inner geek. He believes in transparent government and his campaign site is Web 2.0-enabled. It has an HTML service layer where you can access all his donor information in real-time.

Here are some real-time graphs created on the fly with raw data from his site:

I uncovered one other interesting tidbit. Paul practices what he preaches on returning to a gold/commodities standard. He has built a modest personal fortune based on a portfolio that is largely invested in gold and silver.

A candidate with revolutionary fiscal policies that has a Web 2.0 site capable of handling exponential growth? One single person who tickles my finance bone and satisfies my inner geek? Somebody who will veto unbalanced budgets and eliminate *all* capital gains tax?

I’ve found a presidential candidate I can support.

He ended up making $4.3 million. The biggest one-day total for a Republican candidate (so far) and the biggest online fundraising day *ever*. This is going to be an interesting primary.

    Here’s a great summary:
